Mission Statement

To help people to acheive their athletic goals in life. To use my background as a teacher to teach people people about the different parts of racing and training in a way that they can easily understand. Pure and simple. My goal is to train people who want to learn and improve on their existing times or complete their first race. To help them get it. What is it? That is up to you.

Coaching Approach

I use a three or four week cycle in my programs where there are 2-3 weeks of increasing volume followed by a recovery week with lower volume. This is a standard periodization plan like the ones developed by Tudor Bompa back in the 60’s and 70’s. The cycles come in several phases. The first three are base phases where the primary focus is building the aerobic engine up while working on technique. The second and third cycle has increasing levels of intensity but still nothing over your AeT. The last phase, called a build phase, has more intense workouts that put the finishing touches on all of the work you have done to prepare your body to race. These are to be done around 4-8 weeks out and done with plenty of recovery time in between sessions. How many of these cycles you would do would depend on the following:
How much time there is between now and when the race
        Current level of fitness
Duration and intensity of the end goal
How much time you can invest weekly
Several other factors that we work on from your athlete profile questionnaire

You may not want to do a build phase if you are a first timer. This phase puts a lot of stress on the body and if you are just working to get to the finish line then risking overtraining and injury is not a good call. If you have trained before and have been able to handle it then it is definitely recommended.

Influences:

My influences in coaching have come from people like Joe Friel, Gordo Byrn, Mike Ricci, Bob Seebohar, Rich Strauss and Mark Allen. All of these coaches believe that the way to success in endurance comes from a properly built training program that is based on periodization of the training, starting out with technique and aerobic training and building on that. I believe that a key to an athlete’s success comes from building their body and their aerobic engine up to be able to handle the load that they are going to handle during racing.
